PhiVerb - the Flavors
This means that the algorithms primarily come packaged as their own plugin - pretty much like any “normal” reverb plugin, but including the many features that PhiVerb has to offer, and also at a reduced price point.
PhiVerb Plate
PhiVerb Plate offers a realistic emulation of that famous studio plate reverb used on countless classic recordings. The heart of this algorithm actually contains a sliver of an impulse response taken from an actual EMT 140 plate reverb. This allows it to prefectly capture that creamy, slightly metallic (but in a good way) goodness that defines plate reverbs.
The amount of said coloration can be dialed in or out using the “Character” knob. Dialed back it offers a mostly uncolored, neutral sound which is typical used for modern pop productions. Turned up to 11 it chimes in the 100 % vintage style plate response that knocks it out of the park with the classic feel. This perhaps underrated feature makes it very versatile.
PhiVerb Hall
PhiVerb Hall does a great job at filling the sonic space. Its controls let you emulate many different hall characters. On the outskirts of the knobs you will also find settings that create ambient soundscapes that can potentially go on forever, thanks to the infinity mode.
A short Side Note
When it comes to the room algorithm we also have something up our sleeves, but we don’t want to reveal too much about that yet…
The epinomous PhiVerb
We have already wrote much of what can be said about PhiVerb in its own blog post. This epinomous plugin contains all of the above algorithms plus an additional mode (“Air”) on top. This makes it hard to beat in terms of convenience.
